Charity Challenge: Burj Khalifa Virtual Climb

9AM | Friday 15th May

UPDATE: PRIZE WINNERS & LEADERBOARD STATS BELOW

Thanks to everyone involved, we raised an incredible AED 22,172 (US$ 6,037) for our charity projects from this challenge.

Have you ever wanted to climb to the top of Burj Khalifa?

Does the idea of ascending 2,909 stairs to Level 160 interest you?

Are you up for this virtual charity challenge during lockdown?

If so, join us on Friday 15th May at 9am for our Virtual Charity Climb to the Level 160 of the Burj Khalifa, supported by Dubai Sports Council and led by Gretta Beckett and Wai Ching, (World No. 2), Global Elite Tower Runners!

Our international charity projects need our support more than ever before. Due to Covid-19 our usual source of fundraising from our local activities and international challenges are under threat and our very limited resources are extremely stretched.

Please help us continue our work to give children around the world, the chance of a better life. We are focusing on fundraising to provide them with day-to-day essentials: food, water, clothing, shelter.

We invite you to take part in our virtual stair climb, from which funds raised will help support over 2,000 children at our projects in Nepal, Uganda, Tanzania, Peru, and Lebanon.

Here’s how it works:

1. Click the link to register and donate AED50 to enter the event.

2. You will then receive an email providing all the information you need to take part.

3. Download Zoom to your device, join Gulf for Good and Gretta Beckett at the start line for the warm-up, start your time tracking device, then up the stairs, you go!

4. You have until 9am on Sunday, 17th May to complete the climb and submit your time.

If you don't have access to actual stairs within your home, we challenge you to improvise with something imaginative!

After completing the stair climb, let us know how long it took with a picture of your time stats.

Thanks to our wonderful sponsors Runderwear and Haddins Fitness, we have several exciting prizes to give away.

PRIZES FOR WINNERS!

  • Winners of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Female and Male
  • Participant tagging @GulfForGood #GulfForGood @RunderwearUAE and @Haddins the most during their climb
  • Participant wearing the funkiest trainers
  • Participant wearing the most colourful outfit

To measure the climb, please use the following formula:

  1. Calculate your step size.  The usual size of a step is between 17cm and 18cm but we suggest you measure your own steps to be sure.
  2. We are climbing to Level 160 of the Burj Khalifa which is 62,800cm tall or 2,909 steps if you prefer.  If you are climbing in cms, you will need to divide your step size by 62,800cm. For example: 62,800 / 18 = 3,489. Count how many steps there are to the top of your stairs and then calculate the total number of stairs that you need to climb. For example: 3,489 / 39 steps = 89!
  3. The final amount is the number of flights you have to climb to complete the challenge.
  4. Please note climbing down the stairs does not count!
  5. We suggest, so you don’t lose count of how many repetitions you’ve done, every time you reach the top of your stairs, put a marble (or something similar) from one bucket to another.

IACAD fundraising approval #3046.
