2022 Ghorepani Poon Hill, Nepal

Ghorepani Poon Hill | Tuesday 29th November - Sunday 4th December, 2022

An absolutely MUST for all the adventurous souls. This breath-taking journey reaches altitudes of 3,210 metres, trekking in breathtaking scenery surrounded by the majesty of the Annapurna mountains. The terrain is immensely varied with rhododendron forests, mountain rivers and undulating trekking tracks.

FUNDRAISING: This charity challenge will support Child Rescue Nepal. Together, our goal is to raise USD20,000.

To support our goal, we advise each individual to fundraise USD1,375 so that together, we can succeed with this project and support children in need in Nepal.

FITNESS LEVEL: This will be an extreme test of fitness and determination. There is no technical climbing, but there will be plenty of challenging sections and trekking at high altitude. TRAINING: We run a variety of training sessions throughout the year and our Hike for Good programme (between mid-Oct to mid-Mar) that we encourage you to take part in before the challenge.

  • 18th October 2022: AED1,850 (USD505), 50% final balance towards the Challenge Expenses paid to Gulf for Good

Day1

Day 1 - Tuesday 29th November

Depart Dubai (DXB) 08:20

Arrive Kathmandu (KTM) 14:45

After in Tribhuvan International Airport, we transfer to hotel for refreshments, room check and a short briefing about the trek.

In the evening, we will have a welcome dinner at an authentic Nepali restaurant.

Day2

Day 2 - Wednesday 30th November

After having breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Kathmandu domestic Airport for the 25 min flight to Pokhara.

After arriving into Pokhara, we drive for about two hours to Nayapul through winding bamboo forests, waterfalls and beautiful villages.

We will start our trek in Nayapul and finish the day in Ulleri, passing through Birethanti and Tirkhedunga on the way.

Hike time: 7 hours - starting elevation: 1,000m - maximum elevation: 2,080m.

Day3

Day 3 - Thursday 1st December

After having breakfast, we start our trek towards Ghorepani.

The trail ascends on a stone staircase before crossing sparkling streams and through refreshingly oak & rhododendron forests. After a short climb, we have a little rest with tea break at Nangthanti or Banthanti.

Later we continue the trek to reach the day’s destination at Ghorepani (2760m/9053ft).

Hike time: 6 hours - starting elevation: 2,080m - maximum elevation: 2,760m.

Day4

Day 4 - Friday 2nd December

Early morning excursion to Poon Hill (3210m), one of the best Himalaya viewpoints in Nepal, provides an unobstructed view of the sunrise over the high Himalayas.

The spectacular panorama stretches from Dhaulagiri I (8167m) and Tukuche (6920m) to Nilgiri (6940m), Annapurna South, Annapurna I (8091m), Hiuchhuli (6441m) and Tarke Kang (7193m), Gangapurna (7454m), Lamjung Himal (6986m) and the Mt. Fishtail (Machhapuchhre 6997m) is breathtaking and a defining moment for many trekkers.

After breakfast, we start the trek to Tadapani. This includes a short early morning climb to the Deurali pass for a spectacular panorama over Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. The trail descends steeply through the dense moss-covered forest with rich bird life to Tadapani.

Day5

Day 5 - Saturday 3rd December

After having breakfast, we trek through rhododendron forests where we can see a wide varieties of birds along the way. The steeply descending trail takes us to Ghandruk, the second largest Gurung village in Nepal. We explore the maze-like streets of this thriving Gurung settlement and enjoy a good mountain view of Annapurna south and Fishtail.

We have lunch at Ghandruk village and then trek down to Syauli Bazar via Kimch, where the trail descends through amazing hillside landscapes, forests, and terraced rice fields. Our trek will end at Nayapul where we will be transferred to our hotel in Pokhara.

In the evening we have a farewell dinner at a restaurant in Pokhara.

Day6

Day 6 - Sunday 4th December

After breakfast, we check out from the hotel and transfer to the Pokhara Domestic Airport for the 25 mins flight to Kathmandu.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we transfer to Child Rescue Nepal for the charity visit and onward for lunch.

We then make our way back to the airport for our evening flight home.

Child Rescue Nepal

The aim of this project is to prevent child trafficking by increasing the incentive and access to 20 public schools in Makwanpur District in Nepal.

 The planned interventions include:

1)              Providing two schools with libraries and learning materials

2)              Building separate girls and boys school toilets to remove barriers for girls

3)              Distribute 500 hygiene kits and training

4)              Distribute 200 educational bursaries to the poorest children

5)              Deliver teacher training to 24 teachers

The Safe in School program aims increase attendance rates and keep kids in school, increasing their chances at a safe and successful life in turn.
