2021 Physical Training Company, Kilimanjaro (PRIVATE GROUP)

Tanzania | Friday 1st to Friday 8th October 2021

One of the world’s most challenging mountain treks and one of our most popular adventures. A private group organised through 'The Physical Training Company' will trek through rainforests, meadows, moorlands, via the Rongai route camping each night, up through “The Saddle” before their final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

FUNDRAISING:
This charity challenge is fundraising to support Enjoro Primary School through the Foundation of African Empowerment (FAE) a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation dedicated to improving access to quality, inclusive education for all children especially those with special educational needs and disabilities in Tanzania through providing support services, awareness raising and advocacy.

Enjoro Primary School is one of their projects, a public school currently with 826 students and 12 qualified full time teachers located at the Enjoro Maasai Village in northern Tanzania. This community identified access to education as their number one priority.

The goal is to raise USD 17,000 for Enjoro Primary School.

Each individual will aim to fundraise USD 685 so that together, they can succeed with this incredible sustainable educational institution to support 826 children in need in Tanzania.

FITNESS LEVEL:
This challenge is an EXTREME test of fitness at high altitude, but achievable by anyone in good health and willing to train for a minimum of 3 months to build fitness and stamina.

Participants must be comfortable walking several hours per day including steep inclines and at high altitude.

We run a variety of free, weekly training sessions to encourage participants to join before the challenge.   2. AED 3,750 (USD 1,020) second payment toward Challenge Expenses due to Gulf for Good by Thursday 1st July 2021
  3. AED 3,750 (USD 1,020) balance payment toward Challenge Expenses due to Gulf for Good by Sunday 15th August 2021
  4. AED 2,500 (USD 685) - Minimum Charity Donation due to International Humanitarian City by Thursday 23rd September 2021

Friday 1st October 2021: Travel to Moshi, Tanzania

Friday 2nd October 2021: Acclimitisation Day

There is an option to visit some lovely waterfalls at a spot near Kilaremo and for those who wish, a chance to look around the local markets. In the evening, we will do a final kit check and pre-trek briefing.

Day3

Sunday 3rd October 2021: Marangu to Mandara Hut (4 hours)

The first day’s climb is relatively easy and passes through rain forest to reach Mandara Hut. We will have a great chance to enjoy the verdant scenery, abundant bird life and monkeys that inhabit the forest. We will have lunch along the way before reaching the hut, where there will be some time to relax and explore before dinner.

Monday 4th October 2021: Mandara to Horombo (6/7 hours)

After breakfast, we will trek for about half an hour before emerging from the rain forest into Alpine meadow. The rest of the trek today is beautiful, with splendid views and spectacular vegetation.

Tuesday 5th October 2021: Rest/acclimatization

There will be a gentle trek to the Zebra rocks.

Wednesday 6th October 2021: Horombo to Kibo (6 hours)

After breakfast, we will begin the climb to the Kibo Hut. The route crosses the saddle between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi and then onto the high altitude desert, before reaching the hut.

Thursday 7th October 2021: Kibo to Summit (12 hours)

Rising at midnight, we will start the ascent to attempt the summit. We should reach the rim of the crater at Gilman’s Point after a steep 6 hour climb up a loose scree slope. From here, those of us who still have the energy to spare(!) will continue on around the snow-covered rim to the highest point, Uhuru Peak, taking around an extra 2 hours. All climbers will descend past Kibo hut to the Horombo Hut for a well-earned overnight rest.

Day8

Friday 8th October 2021: Horombo to Park Gate

Today we will complete the descent to the Marangu Gate via the Mandara hut, and then transfer to the hotel.

Day9

Saturday 9th October 2021: Charity Visit and Departure

After and early breakfast, we will travel by mini bus to the Enjoro Primary School. This is approximately a 2hour and 45min drive on mostly tarmac but also dirt road. We will spend time interacting with the children and meeting staff, seeing first hand how our funds will be used to benefit the students.

Then, we will transfer directly to the airport (an hour and a half drive from Enjoro).

Notes: This itinerary may change due to changes outside our control. We will endeavour to keep to the planned itinerary, but cannot be held responsible for last changes that might occur. In all such circumstances, the group leader will have the final say.
