Moderate | Beginners with decent health, new to the UAE mountains, new to walking in the sun. Family friendly with adult supervision. | Relatively flat trail, some gentle inclination hills, some desert or gravel roads, minimal sharp rocks and loose scree, some shaded areas. No obstacles. |
Hard |
Anyone who maintains a decent level of fitness and can walk in the heat. First time hikers may find this challenging. |
Some short steep hill sections, rough surfaces, sharp rocks and loose scree. Minimal shaded areas. Mostly clear of obstacles. |
Difficult |
Those with good fitness levels, comfortable walking uphill in heat for several hours. Regularly practices endurance such as swimming, running, walking several hours a day. Not suitable for first time hikers. |
Some arduous climbs and steep sections. Generally distinct trail. Some boulder hopping & natural obstacles. Some difficult descending. Generally no shade. |
Demanding |
Those with excellent fitness levels & stamina; often does intensive endurance activities several times a week, running regularly. Capable of maintaining decent pace uphill in heat for several hours. Comfortable with heights. Must be self-reliant. Recommended for experienced hikers. |
Arduous climbs, steep inclination, very rocky trail with loose scree. Some small cliffs and balcony walks. Tricky descending. No shade. Possible rock fall. Requires previous experience in UAE mountains. |
Extreme |
Those with exceptional fitness required; undertakes intensive training as well as running. Capable of maintaining decent pace uphill in heat for whole day. Comfortable with heights. Must be self-reliant. Recommended for very experienced hikers. |
